Tryout Frequently Asked Questions

Many questions may be answered in the tryout packet. Here are the most common questions

• How much are tryouts?

  • $60. This covers a t-shirt for the dancer as well as the cost of our judges. 

• Are there multiple levels of teams available as a Sabercat Pom?

  • At this time, Coach TSue is planning on having ONE team. All dancers will perform at Varsity games and school spirit activities. Selected dancers will then be chosen to represent Castle View at regional and national competitions. Not all dancers who make the team at tryouts will be on the competition team, though all dancers will be expected to act as alternates should the need arise. 

• What are the requirements to make the Sabercat Pom Team?

  • To make the spirit team, some performance experience, including dance experience is helpful. This would include basic dance knowledge such as single/double pirouettes, toe touch, leaps, basic pom motions, etc. Competition level dancers will be expected to have advanced dance experience, to include at minimum a triple pirouette, advanced turn combinations, aerials, jump sequences (multiple toe touch, split jump, c-jump, etc.) head spring, kip up, calypso, and leg hold turns.  If the dancer does not have one or all of these skills, please still try out!  We are looking to develop dancers and we have had many varsity level dancers over the years who have started as beginners and worked their way up.

• How are tryouts conducted?

  • A panel of local objective dance teachers will hold auditions and provide scores. Placements will be based upon these scores. 

• Who is eligible to tryout?

  • Any Castle View area student who will be a 9th-12th grader for the 2024-2025 school year. We welcome any gender dancer on our team!
